Any person of legal age under 65, regardless of their professional status, who is looking for healthcare / death & disability insurance for themselves or their family as long as they live outside their country of origin and are covered by/enrolled with the Caisse des Français de l'Etranger.
Enrollment can be made in the period between 2 day to 2 months before your departure for the country of expatriation. However, to ensure that coverage starts at the time most convenient to you and that all the necessary documents are handed to you before your departure, we advise that you enroll as soon as possible. Please be informed that coverage is not retroactive, which means you cannot make claims for the time period before your enrollment was actually received.
At the earliest, your ASFE coverage starts on the day your enrollment request is received (either online or by post), given that your medical questionnaire is approved, all original documents submitted and payment settled.
Coverage may either start immediately or you may need to go through a waiting period if you were not previously covered by a similar plan. You will nonetheless be covered from the first day you are accepted into the plan for the case of hospitalization following an accident or unforeseen illness.
In general, waiting periods could apply if you were not previously covered by the French social securities. Moreover, if your coverage under CFE was not effective, your complementary insurance will correspondingly be ineffective. For more information on waiting periods, please contact the CFE.
You can pay for your premiums every 4 months, every 6 months, or annually via direct debit from a French bank account, via money order in Euros, via bank transfer or bank debit card. However, your first payment upon enrollment must be made by money order or by direct debit from a French bank account. This can be done online on our secure website or via telephone with our trusted administrators. Your claims are reimbursed in the currency and bank account of your choice, either in France or abroad and are issued in checks or via bank transfers.
